401(a) and 457(b) Retirement Plans, Tuition Reimbursement, Referral Bonus, Wellness Benefits Suite, Paid Holiday, Vacation, & Sick Leaves The City of Lake Alfred is seeking a reliable and motivated Service Worker II to support the maintenance and upkeep of City parks, ball fields, recreation facilities, and landscaped areas. This full-time, non-exempt position provides hands-on opportunities to directly enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors throughout our community. Key Responsibilities Perform daily grounds maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, weeding, grubbing, and debris removal. Maintain and repair irrigation systems, tools, equipment, and park structures such as fencing, benches, sidewalks, planters, and green areas. Operate a variety of equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, sod cutters, edgers, clippers, and other powered and manual tools. Assist with minor facility maintenance including painting, plumbing support, and basic repairs. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides as directed. Support Parks & Recreation staff with preparing facilities for City‑sponsored special events. Uphold safety, cleanliness, and proper equipment use across all recreational areas. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of lawn, grounds, or facility maintenance experience or similar work-related field. Ability to operate lawn equipment, powered tools, and heavy equipment as needed. Knowledge of groundskeeping methods, irrigation systems, and maintenance practices. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and interact courteously with the public and coworkers. Licenses & Certifications Valid Florida Driver's License required. Class B CDL required or ability to obtain within one year of hire. Florida Pesticide Applicator License preferred or must be obtained within one year. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays for events or operational needs. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor including lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, squatting, and operating manual and electric tools. Use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, or hard hats as needed.
