Job Description

The BG News Editor In Chief is the student manager for editorial content appearing in student-led newspaper, The BG News. This position directs and selects volunteer staff and is responsible for content and operational decisions. Maintain a positive, growth-oriented mindset when facing challenges. Ask questions to gain clarity on job expectations and responsibilities. With Director of Falcon Media, selects support staff including Managing Editor Determines editorial content for The BG News along with the Sports Content Director, who determines content for the Sports page(s) Ensures volunteer staff functions effectively, efficiently, and ethically Works with the Falcon Media Manager to coordinate work of interns earning academic credit for work with BG Falcon Media Adheres to production schedule developed by the Falcon Media Manager, working with the Creative Director and design team to ensure each page and the overall publication meets deadlines Along with the News Content Director and BG24 Executive Producer, leads the weekly news meeting Contributes content weekly Engage with prospective students in and out of classes to help with recruitment efforts Ensures deadlines established by the Falcon Media Manager are met Ensures product is error-free and ethically sound Works closely with other executives to ensure BG News editorial needs are fulfilled and aligned with other content channels Actively participates in leadership meetings Journalism or related major Prior experience with BG Falcon Media Demonstrated good news judgment and knowledge of the University and community Demonstrated excellence in writing, reporting, and editing
Minimum GPA:
2.25 This role requires approximately 10 to 12 hours per week during each semester with flexibility to align with academic schedule.
Stipend:
$5,400 annually, intended to support educational learning outcomes. This internship is eligible for academic credit with approval from student's program/college.
