Job Description
Ongoing, full time USD $80,172 - $93,780 Washington D.C, United States of America About the position The position is located in the Executive section of the Australian Defence Staff (Washington) of the Department of Defence and reports to the Visits, Events and Protocol Manager. The Defence Visits and Events Officer processes military security clearances for all Australians wishing to visit North American military facilities, and supports the Defence Visits, Events and Protocol Manager in providing visit, event and protocol advice, coordination and implementation of VIP events/visits to the US by Defence personnel, Members of Parliament and other organisations. Some after-hours work and providing back-up to the Senior Visits Officer and Visits Manager may be required. To work at the Embassy, you must be: A US citizen or US lawful permanent resident (green card holder) (18 years or older), or In possession of a valid US Employment Authorisation Document (EAD), or In possession of an A2 visa or eligible to apply for one (20 years or older)
•, or In possession of a derivative A visa and a registered member of the family (18 years or older) of a diplomat at the Australian diplomatic mission to which the diplomat is registered. Employment based upon an A2 visa is limited to 5 years and cannot be extended. All periods of employment on an A2 visa at any Embassy, Consulate or foreign government office is included in the 5-year limit. All members of the A2 principal visa holder's household will be issued A visas or must change to an A visa as this visa class takes precedence. Married spouses of locally engaged employees who are issued dependent A2 visas cannot work in the United States. Those employees with a pathway to US permanent residency must take it up as soon as they become eligible. Remuneration package Salary USD $80,172 - $93,780 New starters commence at base of salary range. Performance Management Locally engaged staff engaged in an ongoing or fixed term capacity who are employed on 31 March, have worked in the role for at least 100 working days and meet performance standards are eligible to receive a salary advancement OR a bonus if at the top of their level. Additional Information This position is a designated security assessed position. Applicants must be a citizen of Australia to apply. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT recognised security clearance. Security clearances can take several months to process, and employment cannot be commenced until an appropriate clearance is confirmed. Inability to obtain a clearance prevents the applicant from being employed and loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment. The Fair Work Act 2009 is not intended to apply to the employment of Locally Engaged Staff at Australia's overseas diplomatic and consular missions.
