EVENTS COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

About Subtext Located in the historic Pioneer Neon Lofts in Downtown Atlanta, Subtext is a brand-new hybrid retail concept: a daytime bookstore and café that transitions into a quiet, curated evening bar. We celebrate "nerd culture" with a heavy focus on science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels, and board games as well as broader fiction and non-fiction categories alike. We are a cozy, modern industrial space where guests can read a book with a thoughtful pour-over coffee in the afternoon, or debate the lore of their favorite sci-fi series over a rare botanical gin or glass of barolo at night.

Responsibilities will include:

Booking author events for the bookstore, including: Submitting author booking requests and proposals Brainstorming and planning non-author driven events Communicating professionally with publicists and authors, including conveying and managing expectations for authors (and their publicists) Coordinating events, including working with authors and publicists, as well as staff hosts (when other than yourself) on all details of the event: Supporting Bar and Cafe leads in food and beverage-focused events Ordering books and other promotional material Coordinating with Cafe & Bar Leads for food and beverage needs Attending and hosting events; arranging hosting for events you will not attend Reporting internally on the event the next day and maintaining general analytics to pass on to publishers Promoting and marketing events: Drafting press releases and copy for store newsletters Managing and cultivating media contacts Supporting social media Maintaining event listings on the website and the internal master calendar Spending one/two shifts per week on the floor as a bookseller Collaborating and coordinating with your colleagues on all of the above What We're Looking For The "Nerd Factor": Strongly encouraged to be passionate about something you can geek out over. Experience:

2+ years in an events management role, preferably in the book industry, comfortable with social media

Communication:

Excellent communications skills, both writing and speaking and an outgoing personality, desire to network, and ability to get things done

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for 8+ hours, lift up to 50 lbs, and navigate a multi-level space (equipped with an ADA lift). ​Some nights and weekends required; hours and daily schedule will vary.
