Job Description

The City of Sherwood is looking for on-call event staff. #2026-23 On-Call Event Staff play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of events by assisting with setup, logistics, clean-up, and breakdown. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to follow written and verbal directions, and work safely and cooperatively in a dynamic environment. On-Call Event Staff need a flexible schedule, as events often take place during weekends and evenings, as well as the occasional weekday. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in their work, understand the importance of details, and can remain calm under pressure. This description covers the most significant essential and auxiliary duties performed by the position, but does not include other occasional work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position.

Essential Duties:

Set up and break down of chairs, tables, pipe and drape, stanchions, podium, signage, and seating Lift up to 50 pounds (minimum 30 pounds) Work with Arts Center staff and follow written and drawn directions for setting up and converting the building for various uses Perform cleaning, inventorying, and maintenance duties as necessary (AV equipment, theatre equipment) Ensure cleanliness and readiness of the space for rentals Communicate with Arts Center Manager regarding supplies, safety issues, and inventory Open and close facilities for programs, events, and general use Set up facilities for events and activities Assist with City and Arts Center special events as needed

Auxiliary Duties :

Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Support and respect diversity in the workplace.

Knowledge of:

General knowledge of recreation programs and general office practices and procedures, English and business grammar, customer service, and use of standard office equipment. Ability to : Communicate effectively and to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with city staff, other departments and the general public. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to work safely.

Experience and Education:

. Typical education would include graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications:

Understanding the importance of details, and ability to remain calm under pressure.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. On-Call Event Staff must be comfortable standing and moving for long periods of time and performing physical tasks. Event Staff should be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds and follow all safety procedures. Successful candidates are dependable, punctual, proactive, and team-oriented, and be able to follow safety and emergency procedures.

Working Conditions :

Usual indoor/outdoor event conditions. The noise level in the work area is typical of most event environments with personal interruptions, and background noises. Some duties take place outside of buildings with exposure to all types of weather conditions and on a year-round basis. On-Call Event Staff need a flexible schedule, as events often take place during weekends and evenings, as well as the occasional weekday.
