This position leads day-to-day Front of House operations, supports our volunteer usher community, and assists with the planning and execution of rentals and special events held at The Gordy. The Lead Front of House Manager partners closely with the Events & Organizational Operations Manager, Production, Box Office, Facilities, and other departments to create a seamless and welcoming environment for all who enter our spaces. About us Stages makes plays and tells stories that invite everyone to live more deeply and love more boldly. We produce a broad scope of plays and musicals ranging from jukebox musicals and family entertainment to world premieres and new work by emerging writers. Stages was founded in 1978 and we've grown to become Houston's sixth largest nonprofit performing arts producer and the largest outside the downtown theater district. We perform year-round with an average of 10 productions and thousands of visitors each season. In January 2020, we opened our new $35.4 million three-theater home, The Gordy. What you'll do at Stages Manage scheduling and day-to-day communication of the Front of House staff for all productions, presenting shows, rentals, and events Lead the volunteer usher program, including recruitment support, onboarding, training, monitoring attendance, and performance expectations Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operational needs, managing front desk activity, phone line, visitor flow, and deliveries Monitor lobby activity and communication systems during business hours and escalate facility or security concerns to the appropriate personnel as needed Oversee and participate in patron-facing operations including greeting guests, scanning tickets, providing general information, and resolving customer service issues Ensure house and lobby spaces are prepared and reset before, during, and after each performance and/or event, including signage, program placement, seating areas, and lobby cleanliness coordination Check restrooms, lobby areas, and accessibility routes prior to performances and events and communicate needs to housekeeping or facilities Work with box office to support patrons with varying abilities and ensure ADA compliance and accommodations Serve as the on site Front of House lead for safety and emergency protocols during performances and events Collaborate with Stage Managers to open and close house, facilitate intermission timing, coordinate audience flow, and respond to in-house issues or emergencies Give curtain speeches or coordinate a designated Stages representative when needed Maintain adequate stock of performance programs and coordinate with Marketing Department when additional materials are needed Monitor lobby screens, signage, and equipment during events; report or troubleshoot issues as appropriate Coordinate with parking attendants during performances and assist in resolving patron-related concerns as they arise Prepare detailed nightly house reports including attendance data, house open/close times, intermission lengths, bar and parking revenue, and notable patron or facility issues Complete incident reports in accordance with Stages protocols and ensure timely communication to leadership Cross-train in ticketing systems and box office functions to provide support as needed. Maintain working knowledge of CRM platform, scanning equipment, communication devices, and digital lobby systems Manage office supply and hospitality inventory, including ordering, organization, and cost tracking Support the planning and execution of rentals, special events, opening-night activities, and other events held at The Gordy Field incoming event and rental inquiries, provide general venue information, and ensure inquiries are documented and routed for appropriate follow-up Conduct venue tours for prospective clients, providing information about event spaces, amenities, accessibility, and general venue requirements Attend internal and client event-planning meetings; take detailed notes and document event requirements, decisions, assignments, and follow-up items Support client and vendor access, deliveries, arrival schedules, and day-of-event logistics Provide administrative support to the Events & Organizational Operations Manager as needed Other duties as assigned To excel in this job, you'll need 2+ years experience in hospitality, customer service, or event-based operations Professional and confident communication with clients, vendors, patrons, volunteers, and colleagues Comfortable in a public role, providing leadership to staff and volunteer teams, and creating relationships with patrons Strong organizational and note-taking skills, with the ability to document event details and follow through on multiple assignments and deadlines Ability to remain stationary and move throughout The Gordy for extended periods during performances and events Ability to move, position, and transport event materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance Ability to frequently move between venue spaces, including using stairs Evening and weekend availability High School Diploma or GED preferred A positive, customer-focused approach to work Passion for Stages' work and desire to play a vital role during a transformational period of growth It's also great to have Confidence in a variety of business and social settings, and building relationships with people in a wide range of roles and industries Familiarity with ticketing, CRM, event-management, or staff-scheduling systems Experience conducting venue tours, client walkthroughs, or event-planning meetings An understanding and love for the arts industry This is important Stages is committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion.
