This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role responsible for producing exceptional donor experiences and generating significant fundraising revenue through two of the organization's largest annual events. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing and personally executing every aspect of nonprofit fundraising events, including sponsorship solicitation, ticket sales, auctions, raffles, donor stewardship, volunteer management, budgeting, logistics, and event production. This is a working director position that requires active involvement in the day-to-day execution of events, not solely oversight or delegation. This position is responsible for the complete lifecycle of our two premier fundraising events—the Annual Chili Cook-Off and Backyard BBQ Gala—from concept and budgeting through sponsorship sales, volunteer coordination, logistics, event execution, and post-event stewardship. The Director will also oversee community engagement events, partner-hosted events on campus, and Texas Humane Heroes' Summer Camp program. The ideal candidate is a results-driven fundraising professional with demonstrated success producing large-scale nonprofit events that generate significant net revenue while creating exceptional donor and community experiences. This position reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and works collaboratively with leadership, marketing, operations, volunteers, and community partners to ensure the success of Texas Humane Heroes' fundraising and engagement initiatives. Primary Responsibilities Signature Fundraising Events Personally plan and execute all aspects of the Annual Chili Cook-Off and Backyard BBQ Gala from concept through post-event stewardship. Lead sponsorship solicitation, donor cultivation, ticket sales, auction and raffle management, volunteer coordination, vendor management, and event logistics. Work alongside staff and volunteers during event setup, execution, and teardown to ensure a successful event experience. Develop and implement strategies to increase event revenue through sponsorships, ticket sales, auctions, raffles, and donor engagement. Establish annual fundraising goals and monitor progress toward achieving event revenue objectives. Serve as the on-site event lead, troubleshooting issues and ensuring all event operations are executed successfully. Develop, monitor, and manage event budgets to maximize net revenue while maintaining exceptional attendee experiences. Ensure timely sponsor recognition, donor acknowledgments, and post-event stewardship to strengthen long-term relationships and encourage future giving. Development Leadership Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to identify new event revenue opportunities. Assist with donor stewardship related to event giving. Maintain accurate donor, sponsor, and event records within the CRM, analyze fundraising and engagement data, and prepare regular performance reports and recommendations for leadership. Community Engagement Manage the organization's calendar of off-site community events that support fundraising and donor engagement. Coordinate partner-hosted events occurring on the Texas Humane Heroes campus. Oversee the planning and execution of the Summer Camp program, including registration, scheduling, community partner coordination, volunteer and camp counselor supervision, budgeting, logistics, and daily operations. Build relationships with businesses, civic organizations, and community partners to expand event participation and fundraising opportunities. QualificationsRequired Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising event management experience. Demonstrated ability to personally execute complex fundraising events, balancing strategic planning with hands-on implementation in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. Proven success leading fundraising events that have generated at least $80,000 in net revenue for a single event . Demonstrated success securing corporate sponsorships totaling at least $50,000 annually and cultivating long-term donor and business partnerships. Strong project management and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Experience managing volunteers, committees, and multiple vendors simultaneously. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. This position requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and actively participating in event setup and teardown. Preferred Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or a related field. Experience using donor CRM systems such as Bloomerang. Experience managing silent auctions, live auctions, raffles, and fundraising software. Knowledge of animal welfare or nonprofit organizations.
