POSITION SPECIFICS
This position is in the Jiang lab at The Pennsylvania State University in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. The lab is located in the Millennium Complex of Sciences with state-of-the-art instruments for cryo-EM, including Titan Krios and Talos Arctica TEMs with energy filters and direct electron detectors for single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET, and a Hydra FIB-SEM for in situ structural studies of cellular and tissue sections. The lab has multiple GPU workstations and access to the university computing center. In this Assistant Research Professor position, you will join an interdisciplinary team and work on cryo-EM structural studies of amyloids in neurodegenerative diseases, virus/host interactions, and protein complexes relevant to cancers using single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET. The daily work involves cryo-EM sample preparation/screening, data collection, image processing, 3D reconstruction, and structural modeling/analyses. The ideal candidate should have:
A Ph.D. degree or its equivalent Highly self-motivated and passionate for cryo-EM structural studies Prior experience in cryo-EM sample preparation/screening, data collection, and image processing/3D reconstruction Prior experiences in protein biochemistry and molecular biology Ability to work independently and as part of a team Assisting the PI in mentoring junior members in the lab Excellent communication and writing skills Applications must be submitted electronically and include a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of three professional references.
