Job Description
Position Summary The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for leading and managing all housekeeping and laundry operations at the Residence Inn by Marriott Huntsville MidCity. This position ensures that guest suites, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and hotel facilities consistently meet Marriott cleanliness, presentation, safety, and guest-service standards. The Executive Housekeeper will recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and motivate the housekeeping team while maintaining appropriate labor and supply costs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, attention to detail, accountability, organization, and a commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesHousekeeping Operations Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Housekeeping and Laundry departments. Ensure all guest suites, hallways, stairwells, public areas, offices, storage areas, and back-of-house spaces are cleaned and maintained according to Marriott standards. Conduct daily inspections of vacant-ready rooms, occupied rooms, public areas, and housekeeping work areas. Ensure rooms are properly stocked with linens, towels, toiletries, kitchen supplies, and guest amenities. Verify that pull-out sofa bedding, additional linens, and other extended-stay room supplies are available and properly maintained. Coordinate room-cleaning priorities with the Front Desk based on arrivals, departures, stayovers, early check-ins, and special guest requests. Maintain accurate room-status communication between Housekeeping and the Front Desk. Ensure discrepancies between the property-management system and the physical condition of rooms are resolved immediately. Monitor extended-stay housekeeping schedules and ensure guests receive service according to the property's established standards. Ensure lost-and-found items are properly documented, secured, stored, and returned according to hotel policy. Leadership and Team Management Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate housekeeping employees. Conduct daily departmental huddles to communicate occupancy, room assignments, priorities, guest requests, safety concerns, and operational updates. Prepare daily room assignments and distribute workloads fairly and efficiently. Monitor employee attendance, productivity, punctuality, appearance, and compliance with uniform standards. Provide ongoing training on cleaning procedures, chemical use, guest privacy, room security, workplace safety, and Marriott brand standards. Recognize strong performance and provide corrective coaching when standards are not met. Maintain a professional, respectful, and team-focused work environment. Address employee concerns promptly and communicate significant matters to the General Manager. Ensure employees follow the proper chain of command and demonstrate professional conduct at all times. Quality Assurance and Guest Satisfaction Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, room presentation, and guest satisfaction. Review guest surveys, complaints, service-recovery cases, and housekeeping-related feedback. Investigate cleanliness complaints and respond with urgency, professionalism, and appropriate corrective action. Follow up with guests when necessary to ensure concerns have been resolved. Develop and implement action plans to improve cleanliness scores and guest-satisfaction results. Prepare the department for Marriott quality-assurance inspections, ownership visits, health inspections, and internal audits. Ensure deficiencies are corrected before rooms are released for guest occupancy. Partner with the General Manager to establish departmental goals and performance expectations. Scheduling, Labor and Productivity Prepare weekly housekeeping and laundry schedules based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayovers, group business, and hotel needs. Manage departmental labor expenses while maintaining appropriate service levels. Monitor rooms cleaned per employee, overtime, staffing levels, call-outs, and productivity. Review and approve employee timecards and correct missed or inaccurate punches in accordance with company policy. Minimize unnecessary overtime through effective planning, scheduling, and workload distribution. Maintain appropriate staffing levels during high-occupancy periods, weekends, holidays, special events, and group arrivals. Coordinate temporary or contracted staffing when authorized by the General Manager. Linen, Laundry and Inventory Control Oversee the operation, cleanliness, and organization of the hotel laundry area. Ensure linens, towels, blankets, comforters, mattress protectors, pillows, and other supplies are cleaned, stored, and rotated properly. Maintain par levels for all linen, terry, guest-room amenities, cleaning products, uniforms, and departmental supplies. Conduct routine inventory counts and submit accurate inventory reports. Control linen loss, misuse, damage, and unnecessary waste. Ensure damaged or stained linen is removed from service and processed according to hotel procedures. Maintain clean-linen and dirty-linen areas separately to prevent contamination. Place supply orders with approval from the General Manager and remain within the approved departmental budget. Receive deliveries and verify that quantities and products match purchase orders and invoices. Maintenance and Preventive Care Report maintenance concerns immediately through the hotel's established work-order process. Partner closely with the Chief Engineer or Maintenance Department to ensure room deficiencies are corrected promptly. Monitor common maintenance concerns, including low water pressure, plumbing issues, damaged furniture, lighting, appliances, HVAC problems, locks, and bathroom fixtures. Ensure housekeepers report maintenance concerns before rooms are released as vacant and ready. Participate in preventive-maintenance and deep-cleaning programs. Remove rooms from service when conditions do not meet safety, cleanliness, or guest-readiness standards. Follow up on maintenance work orders to confirm completion. Safety, Security and Compliance Ensure employees follow all company, Marriott, OSHA, chemical-handling, and workplace-safety requirements. Maintain current Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals used by the department. Ensure all chemicals are labeled, stored, diluted, and used correctly. Train employees on bloodborne pathogens, personal protective equipment, emergency procedures, key control, guest privacy, and suspicious-activity reporting. Ensure housekeeping carts, closets, storage rooms, and laundry areas remain clean, organized, and secure. Maintain proper control of master keys and room-access devices. Immediately report accidents, injuries, security concerns, property damage, or unsafe conditions to management. Complete required incident reports accurately and promptly. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, brand, and company employment requirements. Financial Responsibilities Assist the General Manager in preparing and managing the Housekeeping Department budget. Monitor labor costs, supply expenses, linen expenses, laundry costs, and departmental spending. Review invoices and purchasing records for accuracy. Identify opportunities to reduce waste without compromising cleanliness or service quality. Protect hotel assets and ensure responsible use of equipment, supplies, and resources. Provide reports regarding productivity, inventory, staffing, overtime, and departmental needs. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous housekeeping leadership experience in a hotel or hospitality environment required. A minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience is preferred. Marriott, extended-stay hotel, or Residence Inn experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of housekeeping operations, laundry procedures, room inspections, inventory control, scheduling, and labor management. Ability to lead, train, coach, and hold employees accountable. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions. Basic computer skills and the ability to use email, spreadsheets, scheduling systems, and hotel property-management systems. Ability to communicate effectively in English with employees, guests, vendors, and management. Bilingual communication skills are beneficial but not required. Physical Requirements The Executive Housekeeper must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions. Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Push and maneuver housekeeping carts. Work around cleaning chemicals, laundry equipment, dust, and varying temperatures. Travel between guest floors, public areas, laundry areas, offices, storage rooms, and exterior hotel spaces. Perform room inspections and assist with cleaning duties when operationally necessary. Schedule Requirements This position requires a flexible schedule based on hotel occupancy and operational needs. The Executive Housekeeper must be available to work: Mornings, afternoons, and occasional evenings Weekends and holidays High-occupancy and sold-out periods Emergency situations and unexpected staffing shortages Regular and reliable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
