A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
The Custodian performs a variety of duties designed to keep the building and premises in a clean, orderly and well-maintained condition. Clean campus buildings and facilities. Maintain and restock building supplies, such as toilet paper and soap in restrooms. Maintain custodial supplies and equipment, and inform management when supplies need to be ordered. Assist with special events, including setting up and breaking down. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, required, or directed by the College. The College reserves the right to assign additional tasks and to alter or reassign job duties as necessary to meet business and operational needs. In order to perform these essential functions, the Custodian must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential function. High School diploma or GED preferred. One year of previous custodial experience preferred. Should have knowledge and skill in the use of cleaning chemicals, the use of floor machines for cleaning, and the use of hand tools for basic maintenance tasks. Must have the reading ability and verbal and written communication skills required to receive and provide information regarding job tasks, instructions, and reports to supervisor. Must be able to perform basic arithmetic to determine the amounts needed of supplies. Must be able to work nonstandard hours to assist with special events when required. Must possess a valid driver's license.
