JOB TITLE

FT Custodian

    Job Purpose and Statement/s:

    The job of Custodian is done for the purpose/s of creating an attractive, sanitary and safe campus for students, Staff and public: providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Dust and polish furniture, light fixtures and woodwork; clean chalkboard, trays and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners. Assure security of school during assigned hours; lock gates, doors and windows; turn off lights when room is not in use; monitor facilities for fire hazards and report to appropriate personnel as required. Greets individuals not known to be district employees, parents, etc. for the purpose of assisting campus security. Perform other related duties as assigned. Empty and clean the waste receptacles; refill dispenser. Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings. Clean classrooms, offices, cafeterias and other facilities of assigned site during assigned shift; (sweep, scrub, mop, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices and other work areas.) Clean , scrub and disinfect student and staff restrooms; wash windows and walls; polish metal work, clean sinks, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures; restock paper supplies and soap as necessary; clean drinking fountains. Operate and maintain a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, and small power and hand tools; replace belts and bags on vacuum cleaners as necessary. Perform the thorough cleaning and restoration of the school plant during school vacations as assigned for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment. Job Requirements

    Skill to operate custodial equipment properly. Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Ability to speak read and write in the English language at the level necessary to communicate with other staff and students correctly and efficiently. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to meet schedules and time lines. Ability to efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.

    • Includes day Custodian Specific-Priority Duties Physical Abilities include: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, hearing conversations and other sounds as well as near, far visual acuity, depth perception and accommodation.
    Working Conditions:

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling: some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and /or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, some hazardous conditions, and in varying atmospheric conditions.

    Education Required :

    High School diploma; or equivalent. License, Certifications, Bonding, and /or

    Testing Required :

    Must possess and maintain a valid First Aid Card; Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. Valid Driver's Licenses, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

    12 Months, 8 hours per day

    Site Principal Evaluation:

    Following probationary period, Job Performance Evaluation will be done annually, in accordance with Administrative Regulations. .

    Day Custodian:
    Specific-Priority Duties:

    All Site's monitors and maintains external non-classroom restrooms 1 st Priority. Health Emergency

    • i.e. Kinder classroom /Pre-K, cafeteria, food fight, blood borne pathogen etc.) per direction of site Principal or designee. Deliver custodian supplies
    • Pre direction of site Principal or designee.

    Must be in radio contact during working hours. Monitors and maintain High School Office Cleans assigned school facilities, restrooms, for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment. Delivers a variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties. Perform other related duties as assigned.
