A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to clearly communicate with all students, parents, staff and community Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies Mandatory overtime when neededESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILTIES
Responds to requests from Director of Facilities and/or school administration as needed throughout the day Cleans and monitors designated spaces and equipment in the building, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping and waxing floors; rubbish removal Cleans and disinfects bathroom sinks, toilets and urinals, mirrors Check hand soap, paper towel, & tissue supplies and keep stocked Cleans classroom sinks/faucets Replaces light bulbs as needed Unlocks and locks premises, secures windows and activates/deactivates the alarm systems Cleans and maintains custodial equipment daily after each use Helps in unloading of freight as needed with delivery to specified areas Moves classroom furniture as needed Performs basic maintenance as needed Performs painting work as needed Assists with snow removal/de-icing as needed Performs other duties as assigned The above list is not all inclusive of the essential duties of the jobESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, bending, twisting and lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks Continuous use of hand strength to grasp tools and cleaning equipment and climb on ladders Push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and/or cleaning equipmentCOMPENSATION AND HOURS
