Immediately Job Description The primary purpose of the position is to perform various manual tasks to maintain school buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition, working from established procedures under the direction of the Head or Lead Custodian. This is a second shift, substitute position supporting a leave of absence.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Maintain a courteous and helpful attitude towards pupils, staff, and parents. 2. Be responsible for the general condition of the building and grounds committed to their charge. 3. Maintain assigned areas including classrooms, offices, cafeteria, and any other areas in school or other buildings under the control of the School Committee in a clean and orderly condition. 4. Sweep floors, wash, mop, strip, and wax according to instructions. 5. Wash windows, walls, light fixtures, furniture, shades and other equipment as needed. 6. Dust furniture, walls, office equipment; clean lavatories, flushes, urinals; and replace supplies, paper goods, soap.... Job Requirements 1. Must have the skills and competencies to carry out the responsibilities of the position. 2. Must be capable of continuous mental and visual attention required in performing diversified duties requiring alertness and constant activity. 3. Requires the ability to make judgments to comply with instructions and prescribed procedures and to make minor decisions in the performance of duties. 4. Must be in good to excellent physical condition and health in order to perform the physical effort involved in washing and waxing floors, moving desks, loading and unloading trucks, handling of waste materials and shoveling of heavy snow. 5. Must pass a physical examination with lifting requirements. 6. Must demonstrate ability to think clearly and exercise good logic and judgment. 7. Must be a mature adult of good moral character and have the ability to work with others in a school atmosphere.
