New Carrollton, MD Job Details $16.72 - $20.88 an hour 8 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Driver's License Full Job Description The City of New Carrollton is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming City facilities. The Custodian performs a variety of custodial and general maintenance duties in support of City operations and ensures assigned buildings, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other public spaces are maintained to established standards. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys hands-on tasks, and understands the importance of cleanliness, safety, reliability, and excellent customer service in a public-sector environment.GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Custodian will conduct a variety of basic custodial and grounds keeping tasks in order to provide a clean and safe environment. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleans and maintains assigned City buildings, offices, restrooms, hallways, common areas, meeting spaces, and other facilities. Sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, strips, waxes, and otherwise maintains floors and floor coverings. Dusts, wipes, cleans, and sanitizes furniture, fixtures, surfaces, doors, windows, and other areas. Cleans and disinfects restrooms, replenishes paper products, soap, and other restroom supplies. Collects, removes, and properly disposes of trash, recycling, and other waste materials. Monitors custodial supplies and equipment and reports shortages or the need for replacement. Operates vacuums, floor machines, buffers, extractors, pressure washers, and other custodial equipment as assigned. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of custodial equipment and reports equipment malfunctions or safety concerns. Cleans windows, glass surfaces, mirrors, and other interior and exterior surfaces as assigned. Assists with the setup, cleaning, and breakdown of rooms and facilities for meetings, events, programs, and other City activities. Performs seasonal and special cleaning projects, including deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, furniture moving, and other facility maintenance activities. Assists with snow, ice, leaves, litter, and other seasonal conditions as needed. Maintains assigned areas in compliance with established health, sanitation, and safety standards. Uses cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and City procedures. Identifies and promptly reports building maintenance issues, hazards, damaged property, leaks, plumbing problems, lighting issues, or other conditions requiring attention. Secures assigned areas and ensures doors, windows, and other access points are properly secured as required. Provides courteous and professional assistance to City employees, residents, visitors, and other members of the public. Maintains confidentiality and appropriately handles materials and information encountered while performing assigned duties. Perform other related duties as assigned.- All candidates considered for the position will be required to successfully pass a background investigation.
