Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE
Custodian 2nd Shift
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent and demonstrated aptitude for assigned custodial responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Prior experience as a custodian. Hold and maintain a valid Maine driver's license.
JOB DUTIES
1.) Keeps buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, and play areas safe, neat, clean and attractive. 2.)Able to react and change productively to handle the multiple-tasks assigned. 3.) Shovel, and/or sands walks, and steps as appropriate. 4.)Able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs and to climb and work on step ladders. 5.)Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. 6.)Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. 7.) Performs a buildings and grounds inspection upon arriving in the morning OR evening, and reports immediately to the principal and/or supervisor, any damage to school property that is discovered, during that inspection, or at any other time. 8.)Remains accessible during his/her assigned hours and when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal and/or supervisor. 9.) Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors, windows, and equipment are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. 10.)Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and in a timely manner reports any needs to supervisor. 11.) Conducts an ongoing program of preventive maintenance, upkeep, and repair and makes minor building and equipment repairs as he/she is capable of doing. 12.)Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. 13.)Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. 14.)Display, as a minimum, the United States flag, on each school day from beginning to end of school day. 15.)On a daily basis, sweeps, cleans furniture, cleans corridors, bathroom fixtures, and drinking fountains. Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week and washes all windows on both inside and out at least twice a year, and more frequently if necessary. Performs additional cleaning, when conditions require it such as counter, door knobs, light switches and hand railings as needed. 16.)Responsible for scheduling and carrying out fire drills in school on a regular basis as required. 17.) Able to work outside in extreme temperature conditions. 18.)Able to use power equipment in a safe and efficient manner. 19.)Performs other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the principal or Facilities Manager.
