A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Summary:
The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the school facilities. This role ensures classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas as well as resident hall and athletic areas are properly sanitized and maintained to support a healthy learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Take appropriate care in areas with children for a clean and safe environment suitable for learning. Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces. Clean and restock restrooms, ensuring hygiene standards are met. Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly. Maintain floors, carpets, and windows in good condition. Assist with setup and breakdown for school events and activities. Monitor and report any maintenance issues such as leaks, broken fixtures, or safety hazards. Operate cleaning equipment and ensure proper storage of supplies. Follow health and safety guidelines, including proper use of chemicals and PPE. Respond promptly to emergency clean-up situations (e.g., spills, accidents).
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, preferred. Previous custodial or janitorial experience in a school setting, is a plus. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks for extended periods. Knowledge of cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operation. Strong attention to detail and reliability. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Schedule:
As scheduled, generally Monday through Friday, 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm with a 30-minute non-paid meal break. This is a year-round position. About the
