Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Church Sexton:
Position Description:
Must have general working knowledge, and experience, with maintenance tasks and how to care for the Church building and its grounds. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must have strong time management and organizational skills Must be proactive in identifying and addressing maintenance issues, perform simple fixes, and know when to elevate issues to the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Must demonstrate effective communication skills with both staff and congregation. Routine and ongoing accountabilities and responsibilities: Clean and maintain building and grounds; Set up for Church activities and functions; Perform preventive maintenance and general repairs; Adhere to schedules/lists (Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/Occasional/Seasonal) of tasks related to interior and exterior maintenance and repairs, and landscaping, as identified by Buildings and Grounds Committee or the Sexton Liaison; Attend Buildings and Grounds Committee Meetings as requested and necessary; Respond to and prioritize requests from work-orders daily.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required:
General knowledge of and demonstrated experience with building and grounds maintenance needs. Ability to do routine maintenance and repairs of the Church property, including minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs. Available to meet with and schedule contractors during work hours and notify the office of when contractors are coming. This includes regularly scheduled inspections. Ability to bend and to lift at least 50 pounds, to carry items up stairs, and climb ladders. Ability to see work that needs to be done and address it getting done Ability to work independently (fix issues as they arise and contact Buildings & Grounds liaison when needed.) Must have own transportation, a valid NH Driver's License, and car insurance Must have effective communication skills Be open to people of all cultures, races and sexual orientation and support the church's goal of being open, inclusive and affirming of all people. Must adhere to OSHA safety standards and is expected to keep all cleaning and hazardous materials (including tools) organized and locked up when not in use. Must pass a Background Check, and take the Safe Church Training Is not a member or related to a member of the Church.
Schedule:
Variable 28 hours a week Monday through Friday, including a 30 minute break for a shift of more than 5 hours. Schedule is to be approved by the Pastor. Other days of the week, as needed, to deal with weather related tasks (such as snow removal), Church Holy Days, or special events.
Recommended weekly schedule is:
M•F 9:00•2:00 (plus 3 flexible hours TBD with Pastor), For Funerals, Weddings, and other events the Sexton will receive remuneration based on the rental agreement. The Sexton will be expected to be available for extra needs around the Church Holy Days.
Pay:
$20.00•$25.00 per hour
