A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description A Custodian maintains clean, safe and orderly environments by performing duties like sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, sanitizing restrooms, office areas, the lobby, production areas and cafeterias. They are also responsible for cleaning all surfaces, replenishing supplies and operating cleaning equipment as well as helping with landscaping and snow removal. Key requirements include being detail oriented, reliable and capable of following safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Cleaning and sanitizing: Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, disinfect restrooms and cafeterias, sanitize all surfaces, including counters, railings, and door handles. •
Waste Management:
Empty and reline all trash cans and recyclable containers including production cardboard bins. •
Maintenance Support:
Perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, assist maintenance technicians, and landscape duties and snow removal. •
Safety Compliance:
Follow strict safety protocols, including the safe use of chemical cleaners, machinery and Personal Protective Equipment. (PPE) •
Time Management:
To conduct job duties in order of priority and to stay productive during slower periods. •
Supply Management:
Monitor, restock and manage inventory of cleaning supplies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Reliability:
Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Attention to
Detail:
Thoroughness in cleaning and maintenance tasks. •
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, lift objects up to 50lbs, and perform manual labor. •
Technical Knowledge:
familiarity with cleaning chemicals and cleaning and landscape equipment.
Qualifications:

The hiring range for this position in the primary work location of Binghamton, New York is: $16.00-$19.21 per hour.
