A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description
Primary Responsibilities Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks concerned with the sanitation, maintenance and upkeep of a Dining Services Unit. On occasion, as required, performs the primary duties of other A classification personnel as assigned by the Management staff. In addition to the requirements for personal conduct which are common to all positions in the University, the following duties outline the major factors of the position. They are not all inclusive, do not set a priority sequence, or establish a ration of work to be performed. They may vary in importance between departments and may be altered within the general framework of the primary function to satisfy changes in departmental activity. Cleans garbage cans and properly disposes of garbage, trash and recyclables. Cleans and maintains utility rooms, loading docks and trash areas. Cleans and polishes dining service equipment, fixtures and furniture. Transports and stores dishes, utensils, equipment and supplies to the proper stations and/or storage areas. Washes, mops, cleans, waxes and maintains ceilings, walls, floors, windows, equipment and furniture in the Dining Service Unit. Maintains kitchen and public areas, dining rooms, lobbies and restrooms in the Dining Services Unit. Operates the dish washing machine, including cleaning the machine according to schedule. Performs hand dishwashing. Washes and maintains hoods, vents, ducts, filters and grease traps. Maintains correct standards of cleanliness and safety. Contributes to the total function of the dining service operation. Performs other related duties as assigned.
