A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

The Custodian works 4:00-8:00 PM and is responsible for cleaning of all areas of the building and agency property. Must have valid driver's license and reliable vehicle. High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Capable of making independent decisions and using good judgment within proper policy and procedures. Job requires traveling within the area served by the program and may involve occasional weekend work. Must have valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
Essential Duties:
  • Removes trash from the site, satellite classrooms, and satellite office areas.
  • Sweeps/mops classroom mats. Vacuums and shampoos classroom rugs and spot cleans as necessary and in all offices as well.
  • Cleans all bathrooms daily.
  • Cleans all areas of the Agency as requested, including hallways, offices, etc.
  • Replenishes hand soap in soap dispensers and stocks paper products in all bathrooms.
  • Keeps storage areas clean, orderly, and safely secured.
  • Keeps playground and building front free of trash.
  • Keeps playgrounds at all sites and fire exits clean and safely secured.
  • Assists with the delivery of supplies to the Agency.
  • Sets-up/takes down tables and chairs for Agency meetings.
  • Inspects building and grounds daily for safety and cleanliness. Communicates any safety hazards or building maintenance needs to Supervisor.
  • Works within a team to plan and implement major cleaning and maintenance projects.
