The United Church of Christ Kent is an and Creation Justice church. Supervisor This position reports to the Office Administrator of the United Church of Christ of Kent who works in conjunction with the Senior Minister and chair of the Property Ministry.
Qualifications:
The Custodian must be 18 years old or older and must pass a background and fingerprint check which will be paid for by the church. The Custodian must be able to move tables and chairs and lift up to 60 lbs.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
1. Meet regularly with the Office Administrator to go over the church calendar to ensure knowledge of what rooms and areas are scheduled for use that day/week. 2. Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness and overall appearance of the interior of the church building by performing tasks including but not limited to dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and/or mopping floors, cleaning toilets and sinks, gathering and disposing of trash and recycling, and light maintenance such as changing light bulbs, changing HVAC filters, 3. Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness and overall appearance of the exterior of the church building by performing tasks including but not limited to removing snow from the sidewalks (but not the parking lot); keeping the grounds free from trash, bottles, and branches. 4. Monitor parking lot to ensure only cars with valid permits are parked in assigned spaces. Notify the Office Administrator of any violations. 5. Properly clean, prepare, and set-up church facilities before and after regularly scheduled and special functions, including lifting and moving of tables, chairs, and any required equipment. 6. Monitor the safety of the building by identifying and addressing any safety hazards that occur within the church building or on church property. 7. Monitor the security of the property by performing a daily walk-through of the entire facility. 8. Maintain an appropriate inventory of cleaning supplies by ordering supplies before they are needed and making sure they are on hand and stocked. 9. Monitor the HVAC system to maintain a comfortable environment in an energy efficient and cost-effective manner. 10. Communicate quickly and clearly as needed with the Office Administrator. Notify the Office Administrator of any issues in a timely manner. 11. Maintain a congenial attitude toward all staff, congregational members, volunteers, and visitors. 12. Respect, in attitude and action, the values of the United Church of Christ of Kent as set forth in its Mission Statement and Open and Affirming Welcome, Accessible to All, W.I.S.E., and Creation Justice covenants. 13. Represent the church - its membership, leadership, and staff - in a positive and affirming manner to those within and outside the church. 14. Participate in an annual review with the Senior Minister and Office Administrator. 15. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Decorum :
Attire appropriate to the job is required. Unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated, and may result in disciplinary action and/or termination. Any concerns regarding the position should be discussed with the Office Administrator. A thirty day notice is expected prior to resignation.
Schedule :
The United Church of Christ of Kent holds worship services every Sunday and other events periodically. The Custodian position is a full-time position of approximately 30 hours per week. The hours are somewhat flexible and can be agreed upon between the Office Administrator and the Custodian. The Custodian must be available as needed during the week and on some weekends for special events.
Compensation:
Custodian will receive compensation of $1,008.00 twice each calendar month via direct deposit. For events for which a non-church contract is in-force and custodian services are required, Custodian will receive a stipend directly from the group renting the church.
Benefits :
Benefits include 9 paid holidays, up to 10 sick days per year, and one week of vacation after the first year of employment. Details of those benefits (such as the specific paid holidays) are outlined in the document "Personnel Policies - Kent United Church of Christ."
