A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Description of Job Duties Job Summary:
The Custodian reports to the Custodian Supervisor in coordination with the Physical Plant Director with the primary duties of maintaining a clean and orderly environment as assigned. Acts as a resource for the Physical Plant department and builds effective, strong working relationships to enhance department operations and functions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide support services to the department in a manner that professionally, cordially, and efficiently assists students, faculty, staff, and visitors General cleaning and care of assigned area; this includes but is not limited to classrooms, restrooms, office areas, entryways, hallways, and storage areas Assist in other areas as requested Specific assignments are based on unit need and assigned by the supervisor which could include such things as reading labels, mixing chemicals based on instruction, assisting in building security, maintaining supply inventory, using a variety of tools and machines commonly associated with custodial duties, and assisting with debris, snow, and ice removal from entry ways

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous custodial experience Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the President of SWOSU or their designee may find appropriate
