A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

201031HS Job Description Summary Provide ongoing custodial services required by the agency for Union County Head Start sites. Approximately 10 hours per week; 10/11 month position, August through June Responsibilities
  • Custodial services are to be performed in facility areas of all classrooms, common areas, and bathrooms of the specific site (does not include site kitchen)
  • Daily and Weekly site maintenance and cleaning

August 2026 Minimum Qualifications Prior to beginning work, the successful candidate must:
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Child Care Division Central Background Registry https://secure.emp.state.or.us/ccd/
  • Communicable Disease Verification from a qualified Healthcare Provider
  • Provide documentation of verification (i.
e. Passport, Driver's License, Official ID Card, Original Birth Certificate, Social Security Card) High School Diploma or GED Basic Cleaning Knowledge or Experience Experience with sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and safe usage Physical Stamina and Ability Able to lift 25-50 lbs Stand, bend, twist, reach, and walk for extended periods Reliability and Punctuality Dependable attendance Ability to follow a routine cleaning schedule Attention to Detail Ensures cleanliness meets health and safety standards Noticing and addressing issues like spills, damage, or restocking needs Basic Communication Skills Able to understand and follow written or verbal instructions Report issues or needs to supervisor Ability to Work Independently and as a Team Self-motivated, but also cooperative with coworkers and staff Basic Knowledge of Safety and Hygiene Practices Familiar with safe storage of cleaning supplies Follows safety guidelines, including PPE when needed Background Check Clearance Willingness to Learn and Train on the Job Special Instructions to Applicants Prior to beginning work, the successful candidate must:
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Child Care Division Central Background Registry at the time of application (free)
  • Pass Communicable Disease Verification from a qualified Healthcare Provider
