A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Responsibilities include:
General cleaning of buildings, including trash removal, floor cleaning, bathrooms, and other custodial duties. General maintenance and upkeep of the property and buildings. Minor electrical and plumbing work. Daily checking of the campus and buildings for maintenance, safety, or other issues, and addressing or reporting problems as needed. Snow removal and salting are required and mandatory. The employee must be available when needed for snow and ice events, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or other times outside of normal working hours. Seasonal grounds and property maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weed whacking, leaf blowing, and general upkeep of outdoor areas. Coordinate with the parish office, funeral homes, and burial companies regarding cemetery needs and arrangements for funerals and burials. Assisting with the setup and breakdown of parish and campus events, including moving tables, chairs, and other equipment as needed. Occasionally responding to or checking on the property outside of normal working hours when a major maintenance, building, or emergency issue arises. Accepting assigned tasks and seeing them through to completion. Performing other duties and assigned tasks as directed by the Pastor or Business Manager.
Qualifications:
Dependable and responsible. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Able to accept direction and assigned tasks and see them through to completion. Basic maintenance and troubleshooting skills. Friendly, supportive, and courteous when interacting with parishioners and visitors. Ability to lift upwards of 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as required, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Must have reliable transportation and be able to report to the property when needed, including during snow and ice events and occasional off-hours emergencies. Must be able to successfully complete required background checks and Safe Environment requirements. Must be willing and available to perform snow removal and salting when required. Must be willing and available to perform job duties in all weather conditions.
