A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to ensure a clean and sanitary facility for a healthy and safe learning environment for students, and to manage custodial staff to ensure employees comply with safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for maintaining an inventory of supplies for essential duties, and assisting school staff with on-demand requests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Work closely with the School Principal and Custodial Supervisor/Trainer to support school activities and lead cleaning the school to District standards. Coordinate custodial support in the cafeteria. Monitor various custodian areas of responsibility and supervise tasks to meet district standards. Monitor and restock restrooms supplies as required. Supervise custodial employees in cleaning and safe use of equipment and supplies, with emphasis on indoor air quality. Ensure timesheets are completed, meet with staff, and participate in develpoment programs. Operate custodial equipement and handle general minor repairs. Order custodial supplies from the District warehouse and maintain an adequate inventory. Conduct training in safety procedures for employees assigned to the facility, including Right to Know laws. Promote good public relations through professional and ethical execution of responsibilities. Coordinate staff availability for work during otherwise unscheduled hours. Additional Duties Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned. Assist teachers or staff with items to be moved, prepare water and mop buckets for cafeteria duties, etc. Support special events (dances, basketball games,volleyball games, PTA meetings) with table and chair set-up.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge and ability to use equipment for summer cleaning (side by sides, buffers, extractors, propane machines, pick up machines); Knowledge of District policies and procdures; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Good interpersonal skills; Ability to supervise and guide others; Ability to maintain confidentiality. High level of integrety; Ability to multi-task effectively; Ability to work in a team and independently; Knowledge of custodial operations and general maintenance procedures.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE
Use computers for data entry. Operate custodial equipment and supervise the activities of employees operating custodial equipment; Interpret policy; Good computer and math skills.
EDUCATION
Completion of high school/GED or testing at the Highschool/GED level.
EXPERIENCE
1 year prior custodial experience.
