A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within assigned facilities. This role includes routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and ensuring sanitation standards are consistently met.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Clean and sanitize restrooms, break areas, offices, hallways, and other designated spaces. Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors. Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly. Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, and fixtures. Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. Clean windows, glass, and mirrors. Report maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, damages, safety hazards) Perform minor repairs (e.g., changing light bulbs) as needed. Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper use of chemicals. Follow health and safety guidelines and company policies. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Attention to detail and strong work ethic. Time management and ability to work independently. Physical stamina (able to stand, bend, lift, and walk for extended periods). Reliable and dependable.
Education and Experience:
High school education or equivalent required. Previous janitorial or custodial experience is a plus. Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures. Physical labor including lifting (typically up to 25-50 lbs.).
