What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Substitute Custodian Job Summary:
This position provides students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn and develop by fulfilling custodial duties when permanent employees are absent from work.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Ability to perform job functions in line with
OSHA-WISHA
standards Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, and be customer-service oriented Ability to operate buffing machines, scrubbers, vacuums, and other cleaning equipment Ability to readily evaluate and respond to building needs Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of general building maintenance and system operations Successful experience as a custodian, janitor, or work experience in a related field Ability to speak Spanish Successful experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds Successful experience working with or volunteering with adolescents
Salary:
26-27 substitute salary rates are $22.58 for the first 30 days of work and then $26.57 per hour after the first 30 days.

Sick leave; health benefits including medical, dental, vision, long-term disability insurance, and life insurance when an employee works 630 hours in a school year.
