A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal across all designated areas. Handle chemical agents safely during cleaning processes, adhering strictly to chemical handling safety procedures. Operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums to maintain high standards of cleanliness. Conduct heavy lifting and manual handling of supplies, furniture, or equipment while following safe lifting practices. Maintain sanitation standards in restrooms, kitchens, and common areas by disinfecting surfaces and replenishing supplies. Follow safety protocols at all times during custodial activities to prevent accidents or injuries. Assist with facilities maintenance tasks such as minor repairs or reporting larger issues to the appropriate team members. Skills Proven experience in janitorial or custodial roles with a solid understanding of commercial cleaning procedures. Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation practices, and the proper use of cleaning equipment. Ability to handle chemical agents safely while following chemical handling safety procedures. Experience operating floor buffers and performing floor care including buffing and polishing. Excellent manual handling skills with a focus on safe lifting practices for heavy or bulky items. Customer service skills that promote a friendly and professional interaction with staff and visitors. Familiarity with facilities maintenance tasks and industrial cleaning methods is preferred.
