A Kitchen Staff assists with food preparation as directed by cooks, food supervisors or chefs. Cleans kitchen work areas and dishes. Prepares ingredients for dishes to be cooked, prepares beverages, and stocks salad bars or buffet tables.
$22-$26 per hour, based on experience The Nook is looking for an experienced cook and kitchen leader to join our team as a full-time Kitchen Lead / Assistant Kitchen Manager. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who knows how to cook, can confidently run a restaurant kitchen shift, and is interested in helping us continue developing our food program. We currently have a strong pub-food menu with popular burgers and casual favorites, and we are working toward expanding our dinner offerings with dishes such as steaks, pastas, salmon, elevated entrées and seasonal specials. We are looking for someone with solid restaurant cooking experience who can help us improve execution, consistency and organization while potentially contributing ideas to menu development and specials. This position works under our chef, Jimmy, and helps oversee the rest of the kitchen team during assigned shifts. This is not a desk-management position. Our kitchen leadership works alongside the team and is expected to cook, prep, clean, wash dishes when necessary, and participate in opening and closing the kitchen.
Responsibilities include:
Lead kitchen operations during assigned shifts Work the cooking line and confidently handle multiple stations Help maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion standards Help execute and improve our existing menu Assist the chef with developing and testing new dinner dishes, seasonal specials and menu ideas when appropriate Help refine recipes, plating and kitchen procedures Assign stations and direct kitchen staff during service Train and support new kitchen employees Set expectations for staff and hold team members accountable for performance, cleanliness and kitchen standards Address minor staff issues during shifts and communicate larger concerns to the chef Help maintain a productive and respectful kitchen environment Monitor ingredient and supply levels Assist with inventory counts and communicate ordering needs to the chef Potentially take on additional inventory and ordering responsibilities over time Ensure proper food storage, labeling, rotation and sanitation procedures Maintain ServSafe and food-safety standards throughout the kitchen Assist with opening and closing procedures Help keep the entire kitchen clean, organized and ready for service Wash dishes, clean equipment and assist wherever needed when the kitchen is busy Communicate with front-of-house leadership when necessary to ensure smooth service
Qualifications:
At least 3 years of professional restaurant kitchen experience preferred Previous kitchen leadership, lead cook or supervisory experience strongly preferred Strong line-cooking skills required Current ServSafe Food Handler certification required Experience with sauté, grill and entrée preparation strongly preferred Ability to lead a team while still working alongside the team Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation and kitchen organization Reliable, punctual and able to take ownership of a shift Able to communicate expectations clearly and respectfully Comfortable addressing performance or accountability issues with staff Interest in menu development, specials and improving kitchen operations is a major plus
Schedule:
This is a full-time position averaging approximately 40 hours per week. Strong availability is required. The Kitchen Lead must be able to work a combination of opening, mid and closing shifts, including nights and weekends based on the needs of the restaurant.
