Job Description

$19-$22/hr + tips, based on experience Longfellow's Coffee is seeking a Kitchen Supervisor for our Mahwah location. We're looking for a motivated, detail-oriented person with solid kitchen experience who is ready to take on a leadership role. This is a hands-on position. The Kitchen Supervisor will work alongside the kitchen team while helping maintain food quality, organization, prep levels, cleanliness, and consistent execution. Weekend availability is required. General Responsibilities Set up and maintain workstations. Prepare, cook, and assemble food according to Longfellow's Coffee recipes and standards. Ensure consistency in food quality, portioning, preparation, and presentation. Maintain appropriate prep levels and communicate production needs. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen. Prepare ingredients and supplies for service. Must be ServSafe Manager certified or obtain certification within 60 days of hire.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
Help lead the kitchen team during daily operations and busy service periods. Train kitchen team members and reinforce recipes, procedures, food safety, and quality standards. Help ensure prep and production are completed accurately and on time. Assist with kitchen scheduling and communicate staffing needs to the General Manager. Assist with inventory counts, ordering, receiving, and proper product rotation. Monitor waste, overproduction, and product usage. Assist with recipe costing and maintaining portion standards. Participate in developing, testing, and implementing new recipes and menu items. Communicate kitchen problems, equipment issues, supply needs, and team concerns promptly to the General Manager.
Qualifications:
At least two years of professional kitchen experience preferred. Previous lead or supervisory experience is preferred, but not required. Comfortable working with commercial kitchen equipment and utensils. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work efficiently during busy periods. Clear communication skills and the ability to train, guide, and work effectively with others. Reliable and willing to take ownership of kitchen standards.
