What You'll Do As the Kitchen Manager, you'll play a vital role in our center by preparing meals and snacks that meet USDA and local state childcare guidelines. Your work will directly support our mission of fostering a family-style food service environment that promotes health and happiness for the children we serve. Here's what your day-to-day will look like:
Food Service Responsibilities:
Prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily based on USDA guidelines, ensuring meals are nutritionally balanced and delicious. Serve meals in a timely manner, maintaining proper food temperatures and using appropriate serving utensils. Follow approved menus, posting any necessary substitutions that meet nutritional standards. Manage food allergies and restrictions by adhering to Allergy Plans and ensuring appropriate substitutes are served to the correct children. Stock and organize food safely and efficiently, following proper dating and storage procedures.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
Minimize food waste while ensuring children receive adequate portions and second helpings, if desired. Collaborate with management on food orders, adhering to budgets and addressing any discrepancies in orders or pricing.
Health & Safety Requirements:
Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy kitchen environment through regular cleaning and visual checks. Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of food products in compliance with local regulations and company policies. Safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment, meeting all safety standards. Participate in emergency drills and implement emergency procedures as needed.
Customer Relations:
Build positive, supportive relationships with children, families, staff, and approved vendors. Communicate effectively with parents, children, and staff, ensuring everyone feels valued and informed.
General Responsibilities:
Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, including proper handwashing and food preparation practices. Safely handle knives and other sharp objects, and lift or carry provisions as needed. Complete and maintain all required paperwork and records in an organized and timely manner. What You Bring to the Table We're looking for a Kitchen Manager who is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating a safe and welcoming environment for children. To be successful in this role, you'll need the following: At least 1 year of experience in a similar role. Ability to meet state licensing requirements for age and training. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to follow recipes, count, record information, and adhere to instructions.
