Job Description
Storied at Home is a homewares shop + cafe - it's where design, coffee, food and hospitality come together. It's an elevated shopping experience. We re intentionally small, thoughtful, and quite a bit different from a traditional restaurant. Located on Queen Anne Ave. (north end)
Our menu is intentionally limited, but we serve food throughout the day and into the early evening. We re looking to grow this part of the business and are looking for someone with the experience, creativity, and initiative to help take it to the next level.
We have lots of ideas, but we want yours too. We re looking for someone who can fine-tune what we re already doing, bring new ideas, and ultimately take ownership of the food program so we can focus more on the bigger picture of Storied.
THE ROLEThis isn't a traditional line cook or sous chef position. We re looking for someone who wants to take initiative, be self-directed, help shape what we already offer and take ownership of the program from start to finish and be creative thinker. You must be interested in building something rather than simply filling a kitchen shift.
Depending on the person and their ideas, this could look like a longer-term pop-up, chef-in-residence, or creative collaboration within Storied. We're open to what the role becomes. You ll be responsible for some or all of the following:
Menu development and seasonal changesSourcing ingredientsIngredient inventory management and orderingRecipe development and costingPrep and kitchen organizationCooking (capacity is minimal) and platingDeveloping efficient prep and service systemsMaintaining food quality and consistencyFood safety and cleanlinessYOUAre kind, passionate, easy-going but on top of things, professional yet casual, have an appropriate sense of humorAre on time consistently, have reliable transportation, communicativeTHE KITCHENWe have a small, exposed kitchen with limited space and capacity, so efficiency and organization are essential. You'll be working alongside the rest of our retail and barista team as quarters are tight.
Because the kitchen is open to the public, you should be comfortable and personable around customers, able to acknowledge and engage with them while working.
You should take pride in being clean, organized, and presentable.
This position carries more responsibility and ownership than our general retail + cafe roles and compensation reflects that.30- 40 hours/weekFriday and Saturday evenings will likely be required, with possible Sunday early evening shifts.
