Los Gatos, CA Job Details Full-time $25 - $30 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications Staff supervision Team supervision Employee relationship building General management Full Job Description Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director, a Head Lifeguard is responsible for Pool Safety, Pool Operations, and Organization of Lifeguards. This position serves as a vital role in engaging members and facilitating a safe and welcoming environment that inspires members to achieve their aquatic fitness goals. A Head Lifeguard is responsible for administration, pool operations, and safety standards of the APJCC Aquatics programs. All employees of the APJCC are responsible for creating relationships with the members to add value to their membership and enhance their sense of belonging with the APJCC community. Key Core Competencies Member Engagement Strong commitment to creating safe and welcoming environment to all members and guests Ability to foster strong relationships amongst both members and staff in a professional manner Act as a catalyst for members to be engaged at the APJCC in Aquatics Experience working with a diverse range of people at various levels of aquatic fitness Supervision and Leadership Ability to work independently Strong supervision and leadership skills Provide ongoing leadership and supervision to a large, diverse staff team in the following: Ability to hold staff accountable when necessary Lead by example Operational Effectiveness Assist management with administration needs not limited to: Staff schedules Schedule coverage Clock in and out approvals Summer camp swim coordination Safety equipment checks and supplies Knowledge of aquatic certification standards and best practices Assist the Aquatics Management in the of the daily operations of the aquatics facility Maintain a minimum of 15 hours of on deck supervision/lifeguarding during peak season, 15 hours of administrative duties and 10 hours of shift coverage per week. Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards Knowledge of pump room operations and protocols Maintains and organizes pool deck cleanliness /equipment Lead lifeguard monthly in-service training as well as ongoing skill building drills, and quick checks. Risk Management Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation Ability to recognize and demonstrate safe use of aquatic mechanical equipment Enforce compliance with all safety regulations among staff and patrons, working to eliminate potential hazards. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Education/Special Licenses American Red Cross Lifeguard American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Experience Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience as well as 2 years lifeguarding. Working Conditions Fitness Center/Community Center environment Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures Ability to work safely both in and out of pool Ability to lift and carry 45 lbs. Ability to stand, sit, lift, bend, twist Outdoor/pool deck environment Work in the vicinity of children and older adults The working conditions described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
