Job Overview Under direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day site, program, and facility administrative responsibilities through subordinate levels of supervision. This position is primarily responsible for the internal control of Deterding swimming pool; however, the incumbent will manage one or more other recreational programs including but not limited to the Pirates swim team, aquacise and public swim. Assumes responsibility for organizing, promoting, and directing the District's Aquatics overall Program. Performs regular lifeguard and instructional duties as needed. Such responsibilities include the selection, training, and evaluation of the aquatics staff including swim team coaching staff, and swim instructors. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Supervises aquatics staff during swim lessons and public swim, including supervision of assigned head guard, senior guards, lifeguards, coaches, instructors, cashiers, and volunteers.
• Prepares work schedules, determines work assignments, monitors and approves timesheets and prepares performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
• Recruits, select aquatics staff, assist with on-boarding and provides training/in-services as required.
• Ensures pool facility is opened and closed in a timely manner.
• Performs regular chemical tests and inspections of aquatic and safety equipment.
• Patrols pool area to enforce safety rules and regulations.
• Performs a variety of administrative tasks such as completing accident and incident reports, maintaining daily logs, developing schedules, drills, lesson plans, and attending staff meetings.
• Establishes effective public relations with pool patrons and maintains a professional and courteous work environment.
• Maintains equipment and ensures necessary supplies are provided for efficient operation of the pool facility.
• Ensures safe and sanitary operation of pool facilities including purchasing of custodial supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

• Ability to organize and direct the work of subordinate employees.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Microsoft office, Recreation Registration Software, and scheduling systems.
• Ability to compile reports, maintain records, and develop plans relating to pool operations.
• Knowledge of pool chlorination system, chemicals, and equipment necessary for proper operation of pool facility.
• Ability to instruct swimming lessons at all levels.
• Knowledge of safety rules and guidelines required for basic safety operation of pool facility.
• Ability to establish effective working relations with subordinates and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Vision adequate to clearly distinguish objects and persons at a distance and to identify signs of swimmer distress; bodily movement adequate to frequently sit, stand, walk, run, jump, climb, swim, dive, reach, turn, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, and push/pull.
• Manual dexterity adequate to grasp objects, use fine manipulation, write, and operate office machines and equipment.
• Strength and endurance to safely swim 500 yards and perform lifting and carrying of items/persons up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in the sun for prolonged periods of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of two (2) years of college education with emphasis on Physical Education, Recreation, or related field.
• or•Two (2) years of experience as a swimming instructor and lifeguard, of which one year must have been service in a responsible leadership capacity.

Education may be combined with general experience to meet the intent of specialized experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Valid California Driver's License
• Lifeguard Instructor (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
• Current Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED) Certificate
• Current First Responder First Aid and CPR Certificate
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
• Current First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) Certificate
