Lifeguard

The Cardinal Shehan Center is a non-profit organization located in Bridgeport, CT. For 64 years, the Center has served the recreational, educational, and social needs of moderate and low-income families and young people of lower Fairfield County, particularly inner-city Bridgeport. Our mission is enriching lives through learning . This is accomplished by offering programs such as the After School & Saturday Program, Job Training Program, Summer Day Camp, Basketball, and so much more! We are currently seeking observant Lifeguards for our 8-week Summer Camp! The Lifeguard will ensure the safety of all children and families in our aquatic facility. The Lifeguard will explain safety procedures, warn about unsafe situations, enforce Cardinal Shehan Center swimming policies, maintain constant surveillance of the pool area, and assist with swimming. The lifeguard will play an instrumental role in maintaining orderliness by inspecting swimming pool areas, adjusting locker rooms, maintaining pool equipment, and monitoring and recording pool temperatures. This position will also offer the opportunity to teach swimming lessons. We offer swim classes of varying abilities and levels (from pre-school to advanced) in private lessons, semi-private lessons, and group lessons.

This position will be part-time:

Monday through Friday (hours will vary). This position will report directly to the Pool Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with swimming lessons. Maintain surveillance of the pool area and locker rooms. Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately. Perform first aid when necessary and complete appropriate incident/accident reports. Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and guidelines for the pool. Carries out duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent communicators, swift and safety-minded. Ability to perceive, identify and respond to signs of distress. Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations. Observe all areas of the pool with clear vision. Perform all needed rescues and survival skills. Completion of lifeguard training. First Aid and CPR certification. Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficient in interacting with people of various ages from diverse backgrounds. •Please be sure to indicate on your resume your lifeguard experience and certifications•
