Job Description
Ola Loa Swim Academy is hiring a part-time Water Safety Instructor to support a new Windward-side school swim program. This role is connected to a weekday program and may be a strong fit for someone who enjoys working with children in a structured, mission-driven environment, teaching weekly water safety and aquatic injury prevention lessons to elementary-age students. Job Overview As a Water Safety Instructor, you'll lead small-group, in-water lessons focused on building foundational swimming skills and water safety awareness in young children. This role is ideal for someone who's comfortable in the water, enjoys working with kids, and wants to make a real impact on child safety in and around water — a leading cause of preventable injury for this age group. Duties Lead weekly water safety and swim skill lessons for 4th grade aged students Teach core water safety concepts: floating, breath control, self-rescue, and safe pool behavior Monitor the instructional area and maintain a safe, supervised environment at all times Provide encouraging, age-appropriate feedback to build student confidence in the water Support fellow instructors from the deck and in the water Enforce safety rules consistently and respond quickly to any safety concerns Help foster a positive, structured learning environment for young children Schedule Program is set for Mondays 9/28 to 12/14 with two holidays. Experience Comfortable in the water and working with young children Swim/water sports background (competitive swimming, water polo, etc.) a plus Prior experience teaching swim lessons, water safety, or working in a classroom/afterschool setting (YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, etc.) preferred Lifeguard certification preferred, though not required CPR/First Aid certification a plus Background in coaching, childcare, or physical education instruction a plus Training provided: We train all instructors on our water safety curriculum, and offer a lifeguard certification course for staff who aren't yet certified.
