The C.M. Gatton Beaumont YMCA is looking for energetic, high-energy Swim Instructors to join our aquatics family! If you love working with kids, staying active, and helping people build lifelong confidence in the water, this is the perfect job for you. You will be the highlight of our members' week, transforming beginner splashes into confident swim strokes in a high-energy, supportive environment.
Schedule & Availability Primary Shift:
Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM.
Additional Shifts:
Additional shift options are available.
Private Lessons:
Opportunities to pick up private lesson clients are available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction:
Teach all swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA guidelines.
Safety:
Prevent accidents on the deck and in the water, enforcing all pool rules strictly.
Emergency Response:
Provide immediate rescue and emergency assistance in the event of an accident.
Class Prep:
Arrive 10 minutes early to prepare materials and be available to greet parents.
Punctuality:
Ensure all scheduled programs start and finish precisely on time.
Member Service:
Provide friendly, high-quality customer service and answer general YMCA questions.
Setup & Breakdown:
Secure pool zones with ropes for lessons; properly store all equipment.
Administration:
Take daily attendance, complete progress reports by the 7th class, and fill out incident reports.
Communication:
Provide constructive, encouraging feedback to participants and parents.
Maintenance:
Keep the pool deck clean, clear of obstructions, skimmed, and washed nightly.
Accountability:
Secure an approved, qualified substitute if unable to work a scheduled shift.
Mission Alignment:
Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Development:
Attend all mandatory staff meetings and scheduled in-service training sessions.
Job Requirements & Qualifications Age:
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Skills:
Excellent swimming ability and a varied aquatics backgrounds.
People Skills:
Strong public relations skills to communicate effectively with both children and adults.
Preferred Certifications:
YMCA Swim Lesson Certification or Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.); YMCA Lifeguard Certification. BLS, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications. Benefits FREE citywide YMCA membership. Discounted YMCA program fees. Flexible work schedules. Paid training and certification opportunities.
