Lifeguard

Position Summary:

The Defiance Area YMCA is seeking reliable and attentive Lifeguards to ensure the safety of all swimmers and guests while maintaining a clean, welcoming, and fun aquatic environment. This role is critical in upholding the YMCA's commitment to safety, community, and positive member experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Arrive on time and remain alert and attentive while on duty Actively monitor pool areas and enforce all safety rules and policies Maintain constant surveillance (no reading or socializing while on stand) Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies Complete accident/incident reports for all situations, regardless of severity Follow all opening and closing procedures Maintain a clean pool deck and organized storage areas Wear proper staff uniform and rescue equipment at all times Demonstrate professionalism as a representative of the YMCA Secure your own shift coverage when needed Attend monthly in-service trainings (minimum 2 hours) Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors

Qualifications & Certifications:

Candidates must currently hold or be able to obtain : Lifeguarding Certification CPR (Adult/Child/Infant - Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider)

First Aid Certification AED Certification Oxygen Administration Certification Preferred Skills:

Strong attention to detail and awareness Ability to remain calm in emergencies Leadership qualities and strong work ethic Knowledge of pool safety rules and procedures Work Schedule Requirements Evenings, weekends, and holidays required Must be dependable and responsible for scheduled shifts Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods Must be able to perform water rescues and emergency procedures Lift/move up to 20 lbs occasionally Strong swimming ability, endurance, and mobility Ability to hear distress signals and remain continuously alert
