Job Description

Job Summary Burkwood Swim and Racquet Club is seeking a part-time Swim Training Supervisor to coach and support swim instructors and other aquatics staff during assigned afternoon shifts. This hands-on role is a strong fit for someone with experience in swim instruction, coaching, teaching, recreation, or staff development. The right person will enjoy helping employees become more confident and effective, provide clear and encouraging feedback, and reinforce consistent instruction, safety, professionalism, and member service. Duties
  • Observe swim instructors and other assigned aquatics staff and provide timely, respectful, and specific coaching.
  • Reinforce effective instruction, class organization, participant engagement, safety practices, professional communication, and member service.
  • Lead brief skill refreshers, teaching demonstrations, practice scenarios, and on-deck coaching activities approved by the Aquatics Director.
  • Model strong teaching and coaching practices, professionalism, teamwork, attentiveness, safety, and consistent service.
  • Recognize good work and help employees understand how to strengthen their performance and confidence.
  • Provide visible on-deck leadership and help ensure lesson schedules, class assignments, and routine responsibilities are followed.
  • Support swim lessons and aquatics programs by helping instructors follow approved practices and provide a positive participant experience.
  • Identify safety, staffing, maintenance, or performance concerns and communicate them promptly to the Aquatics Director.
  • Help with staff training, emergency drills, incident response, pool-readiness checks, and routine shift duties as assigned. Experience
  • Current CPR/AED and first aid certifications, or ability to obtain them before beginning independent duties.
  • Experience in swim instruction, coaching, teaching, recreation, aquatics, or staff development is preferred.
  • Swim instructor, coaching, teaching, lifeguard, or comparable training credentials are preferred based on assigned duties.
  • Strong knowledge of effective instruction, participant safety, pool rules, emergency response, and organized aquatics programming.
  • A direct but encouraging coaching style and the ability to give immediate corrective feedback respectfully.
  • Maturity, reliability, sound judgment, patience, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and take appropriate action during emergencies, conflict, or changing conditions.
Schedule and Work Requirements The regular schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Opportunities for additional hours and aquatics program coaching may be available based on experience, availability, and Club needs. This position works indoors and outdoors in heat, humidity, sun, rain, and wet or slippery conditions and may work around pool chemicals using required safety practices. The role requires prolonged standing and walking, bending, reaching, demonstrating assigned skills, and assisting in an emergency response, with or without reasonable accommodation. Pay:
$24.00 - $26.00 per hour Expected hours: 12.0 - 20.0 per week
