KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions Program Leadership and Operations Coordinate and oversee daily lifeguard coverage to ensureappropriate staffing levels for all aquatic areas, programs, and open swim times.

Develop and manage lifeguard schedules in coordination with the Aquatics Director to maintain consistent and reliable coverage.

Monitor pool usage and activity levels to ensure lifeguard placement aligns with risk management standards. Support coordination with the Swim Program Coordinator to ensure appropriate safety coverage during swim lessons and aquatic programs without directing instructional activities.

Evaluate lifeguard procedures and processes,and recommend improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and member experience. Staff Supervision and Development Provide direct supervision of lifeguards, including scheduling, coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action in collaboration with the Aquatics Director. Lead and facilitateregular in-service trainings, drills, and ongoing skill evaluations to ensure lifeguardsmaintain certification standards and readiness.

Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts for lifeguard staff. Ensure staff compliance with YMCA policies, procedures, and aquatic safety standards. Deck Management and Customer Service Serve as Deck Manager or Safety Lead during assigned shifts, ensuring consistent supervision of all aquatic areas. Monitor lifeguard rotations, breaks, and zone coverage to maintain continuous and effective surveillance.

Serve as a point of contact for members regarding safety concerns, facility use, and general inquiries.

Addressmember concerns professionally and escalate significant issues to the Aquatics Director asappropriate. Ensure pool deck areasremainsafe, clean, and free from hazards. Safety and Risk Management Provide direct oversight of aquatic safety operations, including active lifeguard scanning, prevention practices, and enforcement of facility rules. Conduct and lead regular safety drills and emergency response simulations. Respond to emergencies and provide leadership during emergency situations, ensuring proper implementation of emergency action plans. Conduct routine facility inspections and identify, document, and address potential hazards. Maintain readiness to perform lifeguarding, rescue, and first aid responsibilities, including providing direct lifeguard coverage as needed. Administrative Responsibilities Maintainaccuraterecords of lifeguard certifications, in-servicetrainings, drills, and incident reports.

Track and ensure timely renewal of all required lifeguard certifications.

Complete and review accident and incident reports in accordance with YMCA policies and applicable legal requirements.

Assist with payroll-related documentation, scheduling records, and other assigned administrative tasks. Support communication related to schedule updates,trainings, and operational changes.
Other Position Functions:
Participates in required YMCA training, meetings, and events. Maintains open communication with the Aquatics Team and other YMCA staff. Assistsinmaintaining first aid and emergency equipment within established standards.

Performs pool and locker room checks, ensuring cleanliness and safety. Documents all accidents and incidents in accordance with YMCA policies and applicable legal requirements.

Assists the Aquatics Director with administrative and operational duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
