POSITION SUMMARY
The Housekeeping Room Attendant is responsible for cleaning, servicing, and maintaining guest rooms and assigned areas in accordance with Holiday Inn/IHG cleanliness standards and hotel procedures. This position plays a critical role in creating a clean, comfortable, safe, and welcoming environment for every guest. Room Attendants are expected to demonstrate attention to detail, productivity, teamwork, accountability, and a commitment to providing a positive guest experience. All assigned rooms must be cleaned thoroughly, properly stocked, inspected for maintenance concerns, and released within established hotel standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
& RESPONSIBILITIESGuest Room Cleaning Clean assigned checkout and stayover guest rooms according to hotel and IHG cleanliness standards. Make beds using the correct sheets, pillows, pillowcases, protectors, duvets, and other approved bedding. Remove used linens and towels and replace them with clean items according to established standards. Clean and disinfect bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, countertops, mirrors, showers, tubs, fixtures, and floors. Dust and wipe furniture, fixtures, lamps, headboards, televisions, telephones, desks, nightstands, and other surfaces. Vacuum carpeting and clean hard-surface flooring as required. Empty trash and remove all debris from guest rooms. Clean mirrors, windows, glass, and other surfaces as assigned. Replenish guest supplies, towels, amenities, coffee supplies, tissues, toilet paper, and other required room items. Ensure guest room furniture, equipment, and amenities are properly positioned and presentation-ready. Check drawers, closets, under beds, behind furniture, and other areas to ensure the room is completely clean and free of items left by previous guests. Follow established procedures for handling stayover rooms and respecting guest belongings and privacy. Room Inspection & Maintenance Awareness Perform a final self-inspection of every completed room before reporting it as clean. Immediately report maintenance concerns, including plumbing problems, HVAC issues, damaged furniture, lighting problems, water leaks, mold or moisture concerns, damaged locks, doors, windows, televisions, and other deficiencies. Report stained or damaged linens, mattresses, furniture, carpeting, walls, fixtures, or equipment. Immediately notify a supervisor of any condition that may present a guest safety or security concern. Do not mark or report a room as complete until all required cleaning responsibilities have been performed. Productivity & Daily Assignments Complete assigned rooms within established productivity expectations while maintaining required cleanliness and quality standards. Follow the daily room assignment provided by Housekeeping leadership. Prioritize rooms as directed based on arrivals, VIP guests, early check-ins, special requests, and operational needs. Communicate promptly with Housekeeping leadership when an assigned room cannot be completed due to maintenance, guest occupancy, Do Not Disturb status, missing supplies, or another issue. Maintain organized housekeeping carts and properly stock supplies before and throughout the shift. Return unused supplies and equipment to designated storage areas at the end of the shift. Assist other Room Attendants and Housekeeping team members when operational needs require.
GUEST SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
Greet guests in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner. Follow Holiday Inn/IHG service expectations during all guest interactions. Respect guest privacy and confidentiality at all times. Follow all Do Not Disturb (DND), privacy, room-entry, and security procedures. Never open a guest room for an individual requesting access; refer the individual to the Front Desk for verification and assistance. Respond appropriately to reasonable guest requests or contact the appropriate department for assistance. Maintain professional behavior in guest corridors, elevators, public areas, and back-of-house areas. Avoid excessive noise, inappropriate conversations, personal phone use, or other conduct that could negatively impact the guest experience.
SAFETY & SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow all hotel safety, security, sanitation, and emergency procedures. Properly secure and maintain assigned master keys or electronic access devices. Never loan, transfer, or leave hotel keys or access devices unattended. Follow established procedures for entering occupied and vacant guest rooms. Use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer instructions and hotel safety procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when applicable. Immediately report workplace injuries, unsafe conditions, suspicious activity, or security concerns to management. Follow proper procedures for handling bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogen situations, broken glass, needles, hazardous materials, and other potentially dangerous items. Maintain clear guest corridors and emergency exits while performing housekeeping duties.
LOST & FOUND
Immediately turn in all items found in guest rooms or hotel areas according to the hotel's Lost & Found procedures. Never remove, keep, discard, or personally retain property found in a guest room. Report high-value or sensitive items immediately to Housekeeping leadership or management.
TEAMWORK & PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
Report to work on time, in proper uniform, and prepared to begin the scheduled shift. Maintain appropriate grooming and personal appearance standards. Attend required departmental meetings, training sessions, and hotel meetings. Follow instructions and assignments provided by Housekeeping leadership and hotel management. Maintain respectful and professional communication with coworkers, supervisors, guests, vendors, and other departments. Assist with deep cleaning, public-area cleaning, linen handling, inventory, special projects, and other Housekeeping responsibilities when requested. Help maintain housekeeping closets, linen rooms, storage areas, and workspaces in a clean and organized condition. Follow hotel attendance, conduct, uniform, and workplace policies. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by hotel management.

Employees are expected to communicate with their supervisor when operational circumstances prevent them from completing their assignments according to established standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous hotel housekeeping or professional cleaning experience preferred but not required. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Strong attention to cleanliness and detail. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to communicate professionally with guests, coworkers, and supervisors. Ability to recognize and report maintenance and safety concerns. Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on hotel occupancy and business needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to perform the physical functions normally associated with hotel housekeeping, including: Standing and walking for extended periods. Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, and stooping. Pushing and pulling housekeeping carts and equipment. Repetitive movements associated with making beds, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, and dusting. Lifting and carrying linens, supplies, trash, and housekeeping equipment. Lifting approximately 25-50 pounds when required to perform assigned duties safely. Working with approved commercial cleaning products and equipment. Performing duties throughout guest floors, corridors, service areas, and other areas of the hotel. SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS
Hotel operations are conducted seven days per week, including weekends and holidays. Room Attendants must maintain scheduling flexibility based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, groups, events, and overall business levels. Scheduled hours, shift lengths, and daily room assignments may vary based on hotel needs.
