The Housekeeping (HSK) employee is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and pleasant environment for residents, visitors, and staff throughout the facility. The Housekeeping employee performs routine and specialized cleaning duties in resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, common areas, offices, dining areas, and other assigned areas. The employee is expected to follow facility policies, infection-control practices, chemical safety procedures, and applicable federal and state long-term care requirements while providing respectful and courteous service to residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Resident Rooms and Bathrooms Clean and disinfect resident rooms according to the facility's cleaning schedule. Clean and disinfect resident bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, floors, and high-touch surfaces. Dust, mop, sweep, vacuum, and sanitize assigned areas. Empty trash and replace liners as needed. Clean mirrors, windows, furniture, doors, baseboards, and other assigned surfaces. Report spills, leaks, damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Respect residents' privacy, personal belongings, and dignity while working in their rooms. Avoid moving or disposing of residents' personal belongings unless authorized. Common Areas and Facility Areas Maintain cleanliness of hallways, lounges, activity rooms, dining areas, offices, entrances, and other assigned areas. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, light switches, handrails, tables, and other high-touch areas. Keep floors free of debris, spills, and other hazards. Respond promptly to spills and other housekeeping emergencies. Assist with maintaining a clean and presentable environment for resident activities and special events. Infection Prevention and Control Follow all facility infection-prevention and control policies. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required. Follow proper procedures for cleaning and disinfecting areas occupied by residents with precautions or communicable illnesses. Use cleaning products according to manufacturer instructions and facility policy. Do not mix cleaning chemicals. Maintain appropriate separation and handling of clean and contaminated items. Follow hand hygiene requirements and other infection-control practices. Report potential infection-control concerns to the Housekeeping Supervisor or appropriate facility personnel. Laundry Duties - When Assigned Collect, sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute facility and/or resident laundry according to facility procedures. Follow procedures for handling soiled or contaminated linens. Keep clean linens protected from contamination. Maintain laundry areas in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition. Report damaged laundry equipment or other concerns to the supervisor. Waste and Safety Collect and properly dispose of trash from assigned areas. Follow facility procedures for handling waste and potentially contaminated materials. Maintain housekeeping carts and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition. Store chemicals and supplies properly when not in use. Keep cleaning supplies and chemicals away from residents and unauthorized individuals. Place appropriate warning signs when floors are wet or when a cleaning activity may create a safety hazard. Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, spills, or environmental hazards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Housekeeping employee must be able to perform the physical duties required to maintain a long-term care facility, which may include: Standing and walking for extended periods. Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and squatting. Pushing and pulling housekeeping carts and equipment. Lifting and carrying cleaning supplies and equipment within facility-established limits. Repeatedly performing cleaning, mopping, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting activities. Safely navigating resident rooms, hallways, bathrooms, and common areas. Working around residents who may have mobility, cognitive, behavioral, or other limitations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous housekeeping, environmental services, healthcare, nursing home, hotel, or institutional cleaning experience preferred. Long-term care or healthcare housekeeping experience preferred. Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
