Job Description

Job Summary :
The Custodian/Housekeeper position is responsible for the general custodial/housekeeping of the church, office building, Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz center, rectory, and ministry housing facilities. This position reports primarily to the Parish Business Administrator but also works with the Pastor on certain projects. This position ensures the readiness of parish facilities for upcoming parish events, i.e. ordering necessary cleaning supplies and physical clean-up. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Ministerial Character:
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of Sacred Heart Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the faith and morals of Catholic ministry and the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Spend ten minutes during each workday in prayer before the tabernacle. Works with Parish Business Administrator (Church/Office/Ministry Houses), Pastor (Rectory) and School Custodian (Center) to identify janitorial needs of each building. Works directly with Parish Business Administrator to schedule and complete work to be done. Develops and implements a routine custodial schedule for each building. General overall cleaning including, but not limited to, bathrooms, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, windows, and disposal of trash as needed. All other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to lift 25 lbs. Skill in verbal and written communication. Ability to provide excellent customer service and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers. Ability to work effectively with little supervision. Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format. May be required to work some evenings and weekends for special events.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent

Valid Texas driver's license.
Experience:
Three (3) years within the custodial field.
Certifications and Training:
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM/Virtus) policies throughout the employment period. Working Conditions All employees of Sacred Heart Catholic Church are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church. Sacred Heart Catholic Church is an at-will employer, which means employment may be terminated by the employee or employer with or without notice at any time. All buildings and vehicles owned by Sacred Heart Catholic Church are tobacco free. Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly. Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. Will be required to adhere to established codes and conduct standards, including but not limited to EIM standards of conduct in the workplace and outside of the workplace. May be required to use personal vehicles to drive to other parishes or other off-site locations. Will be required to conform to personal and professional activities to be consistent with and supportive of the mission, purpose, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
