Job Description

Production Manager - Slaughterhouse Processing Caledonia Packing LLC - Caledonia, MI Caledonia Packing is looking for an experienced Production Manager to oversee daily processing operations at our USDA-inspected meat processing facility. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in livestock slaughter and whole-carcass processing who understands the work from the kill floor through fabrication and packaging. This is a working management position for someone who can lead employees, maintain production standards, solve problems, and step in and perform the work when needed. Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operations of the slaughter and processing departments Schedule production and employees to meet weekly production needs Lead, train, and hold employees accountable for quality, productivity, sanitation, and safety Assist slaughter operations from live receiving through carcass chilling Understand whole-carcass breakdown, trimming, fabrication, and processing Perform hands-on knife work and assist employees when necessary Maintain high standards for carcass trimming, yield, product quality, and foreign-material control Ensure proper handling and removal of specified risk materials (SRMs) Monitor production flow and identify ways to improve efficiency Work closely with USDA inspection personnel and ensure employees follow USDA requirements Follow and enforce HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and other food-safety procedures Monitor equipment and production areas and communicate maintenance needs Train new employees and develop the skills of existing employees Address employee performance issues and maintain a professional, productive workplace Assist with production planning, inventory, orders, and customer needs Complete required production and compliance records Step into any area of the plant when needed to keep production moving
What We Are Looking For Required:
Previous experience in a slaughterhouse, meat processing plant, butcher shop, or similar operation Strong knowledge of livestock slaughter and whole-carcass processing Strong knife skills and the ability to safely and efficiently perform hands-on cutting and trimming Experience working with beef, pork, lamb, goat or other livestock carcasses Ability to recognize quality issues and make appropriate decisions quickly Strong leadership and people skills Ability to train employees and communicate expectations clearly Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic Willingness to work alongside employees rather than simply supervise from an office Preferred Experience USDA-inspected meat processing experience Experience with HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and USDA regulations Experience supervising a slaughter or processing crew Experience scheduling employees and production Experience with whole-carcass fabrication Experience with meat-processing production software The Right Person The person in this position needs to be a working manager . We need someone who understands what it takes to get a carcass through the plant efficiently and correctly, can recognize when something isn't being done properly, and isn't afraid to pick up a knife and help get the job done. You should be comfortable leading people, teaching people, correcting problems, and working alongside the crew .
