Hillsborough Ave Summary:
The Attendant, Bus Rider, is responsible for the care, safety, and support of students to and from school on the assigned bus route. The Attendant, Bus Rider, is responsible for the safe and appropriate operation of adaptive equipment assigned to the school bus and/or assigned to the student riding the school bus.
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS

Responsibilities:
  • Helps with bus loading and unloading procedures, operates the wheelchair lift, assists students with mobility needs, and ensures that students are comfortable and safely secured.
  • Ensures that wheelchairs are safely secured before the bus moves. Operates all adaptive equipment.
  • Implements proper use and inspects harnesses, restraints, and other safety devices.
  • Corrects or reports unsafe and/or defective equipment immediately.
  • Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests assistance is required.
  • Solves student concerns discreetly. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Learns proper emergency evacuation procedures and assists students as needed.
  • Provides support, instruction, and behavior management to help students understand and comply with school bus safety rules.
  • Monitors student behavior and enforces bus rules.
  • Monitors students by walking up and down the bus aisle when the bus is not in motion.
  • Intervenes when student behavior may potentially cause a problem.
  • Communicates with department personnel, school personnel, and parents about students and conditions on the bus.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Language Skills:
Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills:
Adds and subtracts two digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s. Performs these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability:
Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office.

Physical Activities:
Bending, crouching, kneeling, handling, standing, sitting, climbing, and balancing.
Lifting Demands:
Up to 55 pounds.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Duties require working under time constraints, traveling to a work assignment and early morning shifts. Potential exposure to noises, odors and body fluids. Potential exposure to adverse weather conditions, blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases. There is potential for interaction with disruptive students.
