Bus Monitor
REPORTS TO
Transportation ManagerDEPARTMENT
TransportationPOSITION OVERVIEW
Assist the bus driver to maintain appropriate student behavior management and provide assistance to students in boarding, riding, and departing district buses.EMPLOYMENT TERMS
- Employment terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education's policies, procedures, and agreements
- 10-month employment is based on annual evaluation in accordance with this job description

Non-ExemptQUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience- Previous transportation experience preferred
- Experience working with children preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- None required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the bus driver in maintaining appropriate student behavior on the bus
- Assists students in getting on and off the bus
- Secures students adaptive equipment (i.e, wheelchairs, safety vests, etc.) for safe transportation
- Assists students in evacuation procedures during emergencies and evacuation drills
- Reports student discipline problems to the proper authority and provides written documentation of inappropriate student behavior to the designated school supervisor or transportation department office
- Conducts trip inspections after each run to check for sleeping children, lost articles, vandalism, and vehicle cleanliness
- Collects and turns in personal items left on the bus by students to the building administrative office
- Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of district school trips
- Completes written reports of all operational incidents including accidents, vehicle operations, and student behavior
- Load and unload ambulatory students and students utilizing wheelchairs and other assistive devices on and off the bus, stairs, and lift
- Emergency responsibilities you are required to lift, carry, or utilize a drag blanket to rapidly evacuate all students from the bus Professional Responsibilities

- Maintains the dignity of others and confidentiality of information
- Maintains regular attendance, follows assigned work schedule, and complies with attendance procedures
- Keeps current with literature, new research findings,best practices, and resources as related to the position
- Adheres to Special School District's policies and procedures, including but not limited to the Board of Education policies
- Complies with applicable legal, regulatory, and procedural expectations in the workplace
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

- Talk and hear; stand, move, and walk at a brisk pace; sit; and use hands and arms to handle, feel, and reach
- Accompany, escort, or transport students anywhere on school premises
- Occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Be physically able to implement all Board of Education policies and District procedures, perform Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training and techniques, and react and intervene quickly during crises, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: student elopement, physical altercations involving students, or any situation that requires physical intervention to maintain student safety • Usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity • Yearly NCI training with participation in approved intervention strategies is a requirement for the job Environmental Requirements • Sounds associated with this position varies based on location • Bus environment may be loud and bus garage environment may be typical of a bus garage • Temperatures may fluctuate based on the work being performed • Employee should expect to frequently move from inside the bus to outside of the bus Disclaimer The information contained in this job description is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
