Bus Aide
Bus Depot
Part-Time role: 5.5 hours/day, 10 month position
Reports to: Transportation Director
Job Summary:
Bus Aides will assist the School Bus or Van Driver in providing safe transportation of district students to and from school, which includes securing seat belts and wheelchairs as necessary. The Bus Aide will start their day in the morning at the Bus Depot and accompany students to school. The Bus Aide will then return to the Bus Depot. The Bus Aide is expected to return by pick-up time for students to retrieve the students from school. The Bus Aide will end their day at the Bus Depot.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Southeast Delco School District will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employee's ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist driver in loading and unloading disabled students including physically lifting and utilizing lift as necessary.
Secure wheelchairs with holding apparatus and check during trip for proper adjustments.
Secure ambulatory students in seats.
Follow procedures in response to any medical problems
Monitor students to ensure student-holding apparatus are in place and properly utilized while the bus is in motion.
Maintain order while the bus is in motion.
Attend in-service workshops and other department meeting scheduled by the Director of Transportation.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees
May be exposed to atmospheric conditions that include fumes and dust
Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented
Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Ability to read and write
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to organize tasks Ability to exercise good judgment
Ability to work well with students
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is necessary
Experience working with school-aged children desired
Physical Requirements:
Ability to reach above and below the waist
Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl
Ability to lift/carry weighing 50 lbs. or more
Level of Compensation:
This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $18.03/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $18.55/hour.
