Responsible to ensure that all recreational activities are accomplished in a safe and orderly manner for the Parks & Recreation Department. Assists in the development and implementation of recreational programming. Provides supervision and direction to staff when the Facility Supervisor is not present. Works weekends and evenings.

Recreation Specialists Facility Custodians Schedule:

Tuesday - Saturday, 3:00 - 11:00 PM, Varies with Program needs 1.Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level positions. 2.Provide indoor/outdoor recreation activities for children and youth, adults, and persons with disabilities. 3.Issue passes for recreational skating and monitor/enforce proper safety rules in the ice rink. 4. Provide routine clean up and general maintenance of locker rooms and ice arena seating and perform custodial duties. 5. Clean, sharpen, and maintain ice skates and equipment. 6. Render emergency first aid as appropriate for the situation. 7. Inspect facilities to detect and report damage or safety concerns. 8. Inform participants of facility rules and ensure that scheduled activities are enforced. Respond to patrons' questions/needs and refer to manager when appropriate. 9. Responsible for checking patrons in and out of locker rooms on sign-up sheet. 10. Assist in the setup and take down of facilities for special events at the ice arena, football field, and artificial turf field. 11. Open facilities for daily activities; secure and close facilities. 12. Plan, organize, and implement new special events and recreational programs. 13. Register participants and communicate with parents, teachers, care providers, and organizations concerning individuals, programs, and events. 14. Operate a point-of-sale system, process cash, check, and credit card sales and take facility reservations using recreation scheduling software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer an Associate's degree or higher in Recreation Management or any related field. 2. Minimum two (2) years of direct work experience organizing events or teaching programs to children and youth, seniors, or individuals with physical or developmental disabilities. 3. Minimum of six (6) months supervisory experience required. 4. A minimum of six (6) months of work experience dealing with the public, operating a personal computer and/or cash register, and handling cash. 5. Must be able to achieve Standard First Aid, Adult CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) within three (3) months of hire. 6. Must be at least 21 years old. 7. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. JOB RESPONSIBILITY

Supervisory responsibilities: directs the work flow of permanent, temporary, seasonal, and volunteers; many minor problems daily, and an occasional major one where supervisor may not be present, must use own initiative in handling most problems; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

A recreational facility where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.). Occasionally requires outdoors work in somewhat disagreeable conditions with occasional heat, cold, wet, noise, etc.; up to 3/4 of time is spent standing, or walking. This position falls under the Borough's Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
