| $21/HOUR YMCA Y Scholars Program Want to gain real experience working with young people while getting paid? The YMCA Y Scholars Program is hiring Group Assistants for an 8-week paid internship designed for people who want to build experience in youth development, education, recreation, leadership, and community programs. You don't need years of experience to get started. You need an opportunity to learn. As a Group Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced Group Leaders and Site Leaders at our afterschool programs. You'll help students with homework, jump into games and enrichment, build relationships with young people, and gradually practice taking on more leadership. And if you show us you're ready for more? AN INTERNSHIP WHERE YOU ACTUALLY GET TO DO THE WORK

You'll spend your afternoons working directly with elementary and middle school students while learning from experienced YMCA youth development professionals. You'll get hands-on experience with: Working directly with groups of young people Active supervision and student safety Homework and academic support Sports, games, STEAM, art, and enrichment activities Building positive relationships with students Supporting positive student behavior Helping lead activities and transitions Working as part of a professional team Communicating and taking direction from Site Leaders Receiving feedback and applying it to your work Taking initiative and becoming more independent The goal is simple: By the end of your eight weeks, we want you to be more confident, more capable, and more prepared to lead.

YOUR 8 WEEKS CAN LEAD TO MORE

The Group Assistant position is intentionally temporary. Approximately eight weeks after your first day, your internship will conclude and we'll evaluate your experience, growth, performance, and available opportunities. Group Assistants may be considered for advancement into available Group Leader positions. We'll also consider strong performers for available opportunities during: Spring Break programs Summer Camps Future school-year programs Other YMCA youth development opportunities

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO

As a Group Assistant, you'll work alongside Group Leaders and Site Leaders to help create an afterschool experience that is safe, organized, welcoming, and fun.

Your responsibilities will include:

Actively supervising students and helping maintain a safe environment Building positive relationships so students feel welcomed and included Assisting Group Leaders with lessons, activities, transitions, and routines Supporting students with homework, reading, and other academic activities Jumping into sports, games, STEAM, creative arts, and hands-on enrichment Helping prepare activities, materials, and program spaces Practicing activity facilitation as your skills and confidence grow Reinforcing expectations and encouraging positive student behavior Recording accurate attendance and assisting with program documentation Helping maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces Supporting school events, family nights, celebrations, and other activities Stepping in where needed and contributing to the success of your team Completing other program-related responsibilities as assigned The more initiative and growth you demonstrate, the more opportunities you'll have to practice leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the Group Assistant position, you must: Be at least 18 years old Have completed 48 college semester units OR pass an Instructional Aide Exam Don't have 48 units? We'll provide information about the Instructional Aide Exam. Successfully complete required DOJ/FBI criminal background checks Obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire Complete required Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire

THIS IS AN ACTIVE JOB

Working in an afterschool program means being on your feet, moving around, and actively engaging with students.
