Job Description
Part-Time Recreation Specialist The City of Petaluma is currently recruiting for a Part-Time Recreation Specialist to fill one vacancy within the Parks and Recreation Department. Hours worked will primarily support the Spring and Fall softball season taking place May through November. Hours worked for this seasonal position will not typically exceed 20 hours per week. This recruitment may also be used to fill future Part-Time Recreation Specialist vacancies that may occur. This part-time position does not offer any benefits. The candidate selected to fill this vacancy will be primarily assigned to field preparation. The Part-Time Recreation Specialist assigned to athletic field preparation is responsible for setting up and maintaining athletic and recreation spaces for organized activities, leagues and events. Duties include, but aren't limited to, lining fields, grooming infields, placing and removing equipment, safety inspections, performing basic maintenance such as raking and debris removal, and assisting with opening and closing fields. The position requires safe use of hand tools and light equipment and responding to basic public inquiries using good customer service, assisting with cleanup after events, and reporting safety issues or damage to a supervisor. Summary Plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise a variety of recreation programs, activities, and special events for the Parks and Recreation Department. Class Characteristics Under general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor and/or their designee, this position is responsible for organizing and coordinating a variety of recreation programs, activities, and special events for the Parks and Recreation Department. This position may perform duties in one or more of the following functional areas or locations: Adult Sports, Aquatics, Facilities and Building, Special Events, Camps, and/or the Senior Center. This position may exercise technical/functional supervision of volunteers and other part-time program staff. Help plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise a variety of recreation programs, activities, and special events. Set-up furniture and equipment for classes, special events, and programs. Schedule and organize activities and special programs. Design flyers, posters, information packets, activity guides, and other related documents. Perform general maintenance and basic custodial work. Help to coordinate social functions and excursions. Perform a variety of office activities related to program functions. Maintain accurate records and reports. Correctly answer inquiries from the public over the telephone and in person. Review and share updated information about programs. Perform related duties as assigned.
